Have you read anything about the top 10 baseball teams of all time? Read this and you will see my opinion on the top 10 teams ever to play baseball.

1. 1927 New York Yankees

With the highlights coming from Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri and Earl Combs, the ´27 Yankees were arguably the best team in baseball history. They also had a great pitching staff led by Waite Hoyt´s 2.63 ERA and 22 Wins. In that season, the Babe set the franchise record for home runs in a season before Roger Maris broke it in 1961, and with Gehrig having 47 HRs, they led the AL in home runs with 158 and managed by Miller Huggins, they had an amazing team.

2. 1939 New York Yankees

Led by Joe Dimaggio, Red Ruffing and George Selkrik, the ´39 Yankees were a heck of a team. With Red Rolfe batting .329, George Selkrik batting .306, and Joe Dimmagio batting .389 they were a great hitting team but they had good pitching too, with Ruffing and Lefty Gomez on the hill and Joe Mccarthy Managing, what could go wrong? I´ll tell you what, nothing! They swept the Reds in 4 games to win the series and take home the trophy but collapsed in ‘40. They might have been numero uno if they had more power hitting.

3. 1975 Cincinnati Reds

With SS Dave Concepcion and 2B Joe Morgan, the Reds had one of the finest middle infield pair of all time. They also had Johnny Bench and George Foster to help at the plate. With Joe Morgan batting .327, Pete Rose batting .315, and Ken Griffey Sr. batting .305, they were second in the NL in BA and third in home runs. They also were a fast team with Morgan stealing 67 bases and Concepcion stealing 33. They also had good starting pitching with Don Gullett and Gary Nolan leading the way and were also strong in their relief, with Will McEnany and Rawly Eastwick.

4. 1929 Philadelphia Athletics

The ´29 A´s consisted of 6 future HOFers, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Grove, Al Simmons, Jimmy Foxx, Eddie Collins and Manager Connie Mack. Al Simmons batted .365 with 34 HRs and 158 RBIs, Lefty Grove had a 2.81 ERA and 20 wins, and Jimmie Foxx batted .354 with 33 HRs and 118 RBIs. They had 6 players hitting over .300 and led the AL in team OBP, team OPS, and team ERA. Led by Connie Mack, they won the series again in ´30.

5. 1998 New York Yankees

They were not such a power hitting team with Tino Martinez leading them in HRs with 28, but could hit for a high average with Derek Jeter at .324, Bernie Williams at .339, Paul O´Neill at .317, and Scott Brosius at .300. They won the series over the Indians, and with Joe Torre managing, they won the series yet again in 1999 in a sweep over the Braves. They had strong relief with Mariano Rivera and Ramiro Mendoza. They also had good starting pitchers in David Wells, David Cone, and Orlando Hernandez.

6. 1961 New York Yankees

With Roger Maris hitting 61 HRs and 141 RBIs, Mickey Mantle hitting 51 HRs and batting .317, and Elston Howard batting .342 with a .549 SLG. They also had strong pitching, with Whitey Ford, Bill Stafford and Ralph Terry starting, and Luis Arroyo in relief. They won the series against the Reds and with Bobby Richardson and Roger Maris piling up the hits, they won the series yet again in 1962. They led the AL in HRs, OPS and SLG.

7. 1970 Baltimore Orioles

With 7 All Stars and 3 future HOFers in Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, and Jim Palmer, the ´70 Orioles were a great team. They had amazing pitching and led the AL in team ERA, team OBP and team S. Boog Powell batted .297 with 35 HRs and 114 RBIs. They had strong pitching with Jim Palmer having a 2.71 ERA and 20 Ws and Dave McNally having a 3.22 ERA with 24 Ws. They also had strong relief with Pete Richert and Marcileno Lopez.

8. 1955 Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers had maybe the best upset in baseball history when they defeated the Yankees in 7 games to take hom the title. They had 3 players batting over .300, Roy Campnella at .318, Carl Furrilo at .314 and Duke Snider at .309 and Snider (42) and Campnella (32) had over 30 HRs Managed by Walter Alston, it was their first world series title. They also had strong pitching from Don Newcombe (Who also hit 7 HRs!) and Billy Loes, they also had strong relief in Don Bessett and Clem Labine. 1955 was also Sandy Koufax´s rookie year.

9. 1984 Detroit Tigers

The ´84 Tigers had probably the best middle infield pair of all time in Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell. Trammell led the Tigers in BA in which he batted .314, and Whitaker was second with a .289 BA. Lane Parrish led the Tigers in HRs and RBIs. He had 34 HRs, and 98 RBIs. Kirk Gibson had 29 stolen bases and Trammell had 19. Under the management of Sparky Anderson, they beat the Padres in 5 games to win the series and take home the trophy. If Willie Hernandez, Aurelio Lopez, Dan Petry and Jack Morris held up the pitching fort, they might have won the series again in 1985.

10. 1907 Chicago Cubs

The Cubs were not such a hitting team, with Frank Chance leading them in BA in which he batted .296, but their pitching was amazing! They had 5 pitchers under 2.00 in ERA which led to a 1.73 team ERA. Mordecai Brown (20) and Orval Overall (23) both had over 20 games won, and the Cubs pitchers allowed just 11 HRs! They also had 30 shutouts and led the league in 8 out of 13 pitching stats. Orval Overall and Mordecai Brown both had a 5.5 or over WAR. Overall at 5.8, and Brown at 5.5.
